ORDINANCE NO. 1117 (2020)

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CRAIG, COLORADO REFERRING A QUESTION TO THE REGISTERED ELECTORS APPROVING CHANGES TO THE CRAIG CITY CHARTER CONCERNING RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CITY ATTORNEY; AND SETTING A BALLOT MEASURE FOR THE NOVEMBER 3, 2020 COORDINATED ELECTION.

RECITALS

WHEREAS, the City of Craig (the "City") is a Colorado home rule city duly organized and existing under the laws of the State of Colorado;

WHEREAS, the members of the City Council of the City (the "City Council") have been duly elected and qualified;

WHEREAS, the City operates based upon the home rule charter duly adopted by the citizens of the City of Craig, which is known as the Home Rule Charter of the City of Craig ("the Charter");

WHEREAS, the Charter may only be amended by a vote of the registered electors of the City;

WHEREAS, the City Council from time to time appoints a charter review committee and considers charter provisions which may need to be updated, modified or improved, and submits such charter revisions to a vote of the registered electors;

WHEREAS, the Craig City Council is hereby referring a ballot measure for the coordinated election on November 3, 2020, which would modify the Charter provision related to the residency requirements for the municipal judge if passed by the registered electors of the City of Craig.

This Ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days after passage and upon publication of such ordinance after passage.

The City Council deems it appropriate to publish the title of this Ordinance, together with a summary of the Ordinance and with the statement that the text is available for public inspection and acquisition in the office of the City Clerk.
