Public Hearing

A Study to determine the pros and cons of moving the offices of 3 county buildings into the Kmart building has been completed and the results will be discussed at a public hearing on Tuesday September 29th at 9:30 AM. At that time the Board of County Commissioners will review the project and take comments from the public. The hearing will be held in the Commissioners Chambers at the Courthouse.

For 20 years the courts have been asking Moffat County to provide a solution to safety, security and space needs at the courthouse. This year the County conducted a study paid for by the Colorado Under Funded Courthouse Facility Commission and Colorado Department of Local Affairs to look at options for improvement to the existing building and to explore moving the County into the Kmart Building. The goal is to consolidate 3 buildings into one, thereby reducing the overall operating costs to the County. If it is feasible to move, the County would sell those 3 properties after they are vacated. The cost of the project would be paid for using the sales tax already in place that pays for the bonds at the Safety Center, meaning no new taxes would be required to fund the project.
